My Favorite Postpartum Breastfeeding Brownie Recipe!

I’ve literally been making and eating these brownies since I came home from the hospital at the end of August. They’re filling, delicious and nutrient dense. I hope you get the chance to make them as soon as possible. It only takes 5 minutes to whip together - you will not be disappointed.

Ingredients

  • Ghirardelli Chocolate brownie mix (w/ chocolate chips)

  • Dark chocolate chips

  • 1 cup of peanut butter (I prefer JIF no sugar added)

  • ¼ cup of water

  • 2 bananas

Instructions

Mash bananas. Add peanut butter and water to mashed banana mixture. Once things are mixed, then add in brownie mix. It will look like you need to add more water, but DON’T. It will blend very nicely, just keep mixing it. Once combined, place in 9x9 glass pan and bake for 45-50 minutes at 325 degrees. I always top it with dark chocolate chips but this optional:) Cool for 10-20 minutes. Enjoy!

How did I come up with this recipe?

Well.. I’ve always been a fan of all natural things. Added oils and sugars don’t make me feel the best so instead of oil, I chose peanut butter and instead of eggs I chose bananas! I have baked with these ingredients many times, so I thought I’d give it a try. And finding spare time to bake something from scratch is hard to find.

How long does this recipe take to make?

It takes literally 5 minutes to gather and mix all the ingredients. But it does take a solid 45-50 minutes to bake and then 10-20 minutes to cool. So definitely don’t be waiting around with an empty belly as a breastfeeding momma to eat this!

Is this good for breastfeeding?

YES! I’ve read lots of benefits to breastmilk composition when you eat peanut butter regularly. And in fact I also did read that magnesium is necessary for breastfeeding but also for healing postpartum and there lot’s of magnesium in chocolate! AND this recipe is filling and a great grab-and-go meal.

I’ve also eaten this raw since there is not egg in this recipe. This is a great edible brownie batter recipe too if you choose not to bake it. You could just place it in a container and put it in the fridge overnight and boom, brownie batter to top on ice cream 🙂
